Whysharper

August 30, 2009 20:06
Recently I was playing with Resharper and suddenly got an idea that agitated me so much that I sat down and implemented it as an open source project.

It's a plugin that brings together StackOverflow.com and Resharper. What for? There's a lot of questions about "why R# suggests this" and "why R# recommends that" - I bet you've heard them as well. And it's just fabulously easy to ask and answer these on a community website where good answers get upvoted and appear on top.

How this works.

With WhySharper installed, there's a new option added to every suggestion. After you hit the "why" you'll get a few links to detailed discussions from
stackoverflow - just read over and make an informed decision on whether to apply the change or not.

This works the other way around too. Smart people are often good mentors and share their knowledge just because someone else might be struggling with the same stuff right now. If  you know a decent discussion about a particular issue, let me know. Once applied, your link will become visible to all WhySharper users next time they restart Visual Studio.

So - go ahead, join the growing community of WhySharper folks and make this world a better place! :)
